Doesn’t raise grain in finer grained film. For me it consistently produces finer grain and can be used with a wide variety of film. Negatives come out sharp and with very little grain.
I routinely use it to push HP5 3 stops and Delta 2 stops with great results. Images are not particularly contrasty which preserves the maximum amount of detail in both highlights and shadows koodak can easily be increased in the printing process.
I really am pleased with the results – good tone separation, fine grain, high accutance and it doesn’t stain I have to use the bathroom for developing and appreciate this quality. This is my favorite developer. Kodak Professional XTOL is a two-part powder developer suitable for most professional black and white films. It’s basically self-exhausting, too, so it’s hard to overdevelop.
