I am deeply impressed by this sci-fi short by Isaac Asiomv from Tension between the two groups illustrates the conflict between science and religion.

This had led to mankind evolving with an inherent noitte of the dark. He ksaac wrote mysteries and fantasy, as well as a great amount of nonfiction. It was one of the first books written by Asimov that I read. We are rushed into this society, their science, religion, history and mythology, which is an exploit in so few pages. They are also ridiculed.

The waiting inside the narrative made me very nervous.

They, like 9 previous civilizations turn to burning their cities to the ground. Society has only recently advanced to the point where it is able to excavate the ruins of prior nightfalls and predict the coming nightfall.

Me thinks Pitch Black was inspired by this in some way. Theremon wonders why a renowned scientist would believe in such ‘nonsense’, but Aton and his staff inform Theremon that there is evidence of several civilizations that preceded the current society. But Nightfall has good world building and surprisingly better than average execution for Asimov’s works.
