What spoke to me most in this book was the lesson of doing something for the sake of doing it, not for the reward. I found Huxley’s prefatory essay to be valuable, as well as the appendix material on Hindu Cosmology. Every generation takes something new from the Bhagavad-Gita, and now it is your turn. In these verses, one can find the entirety of Hindu philosophy.

There are passages of beauty and insight. I’m not coming across well, but I’m really glad I read this, and if the wh I’ve never read a religious text before, and I expected somewhat of a screed, but this was actually a great read. It was if the cream of the Bible was skimmed off and placed within this book.
The notes provided were sufficient for someone with zero background in the subject matter. Admittedly it seems kind of silly to talk about a “favorite scripture”, but this is easily mine.
I was raised Lutheran I’m an atheist now, but I do respect all the major religions and faiths of the world and I was curious about what was written in the greatest text of Hinduism. Swami Prabhavananda was an Indian monk of the Ramakrishna Order. I think I’d need to read some commentaries by scholars of Hinduism to truly understand it. If one masters the way prabhavnanda it is given here, one will definitely master life and existence.
The philosophy is interesting, even to eong non-Hindu, the prose is beautiful Truly, I think The wind is no wilder.
How shall he tame it? Who knows the Atman Knows that happiness Born of pure knowledge: In their failure to fulfil their Dharma, mankind falters from the path set by prabhavananra Gods and at that moment, Krishna will continue to manifest himself time and again.
Other than that, I found myself wondering just how shallow I must be, as my mind kept drifting to thoughts such as, “Didn’t I read this very thing a few pages back, just presented a bit differently? There are long descriptions of an obscure cosmology. When we consider Brahman as lodged within the individual being, we call Him the Atman. This book provides comparison between religions about how similar are they. Arjuna protests Krishna, you describe this yoga as a life of union with Brahman.
No particular endorsement of this translation- it’s just the one I happen to own. I really connected with some of the ideas propounded here, but even if you don’t, it’s worth reading for the narrative alone. Thus, on the predetermined battlefield of Kurukshetra, where the God Parashurama slew tens of thousands of Kshatriyas, the Pandavas gira Kauravas were poised to begin their battle.
